When I hear the phrase, “Walking in someone else’s shoes”, it reminds me of a few different scenarios. One of them is that you can never really understand another person’s circumstances unless you find yourself in the same position.
I heard T. Harv Eker say that in his workshops he lets people swop shoes (must say, don’t know if I would do it – sweaty feet comes to mind) so they can experience the discomfort of that. This then relates to people not doing the work they love.
It is such an apt metaphor that I just had to share it. Wearing uncomfortable shoes all day that pinch, slip off, are too big, too small, smelly, ugly, even gorgeous but it’s not you, must be hell.
And yet that is exactly what you are doing if you find yourself in a job or even your own business not doing what you love. This can also happen even if you do what you love, but you are overwhelmed because you are not getting the results you want and then probably not having fun and enjoying the business lifestyle you intended.
Worst is, we are prepared to do that! Day in and day out, not seeing a way out. Well that is what you are thinking if you don’t do something about it or don’t know what to do about it.
Let’s look at what it would take to get out of this undesired reality.
5 Essential Keys to Business Success.
Purpose and Meaning
First determine what you are all about. Discover, confirm or refine your purpose. This is not a cliché. Purpose gives you meaning and meaning gives you purpose. Both are crucial to experience fulfillment, self-actualization and contributes directly to your health. What are you passionate about? What are your talents and skills?
Crystal Clear Vision
Next you need a crystal clear vision. What do you want in your business, life, relationships, etc.? What do you dream about? Where are you going? Where do you want your business and life to be? Make sure your purpose is aligned with your vision. This is also the road to success and wealth.
Then you need a plan that you can follow step by step to manifest your vision. A plan detailed enough so that you know exactly what you need to do every day, week, month to move you closer to living your dream.
The combination of purpose and vision gives you your WHY that gets you out of bed in the morning, excited about your day ahead. The bigger your WHY, the easier it would be to stay motivated, because as you know life happens all the time and can derail you if you don’t have a strong enough why to stay the course.
However, many entrepreneurs disregard the following to their detriment.
Your inner game or mindset, especially your relationship with yourself will determine your success or failure in everything you do. Your relationship with your self determines who you are being in your doing. Your beliefs about your self, capabilities, people, business, time to name a few determine your strategies, actions, behavior when things go well and when they go wrong. In short to grow your business, you need to grow your self.
Last but not least, you need to upgrade your skills in terms of running a business. You need to be skilled at marketing, setting up systems, customer service, finances, to name a few. How to leverage your business so that you can work less and make more money is key to become a business owner instead of just working for yourself. Robert Kiyosaki said that most businesses don’t fail because of what entrepreneurs know and don’t do – yes that too – but most businesses fail because of what the entrepreneur don’t know.
These 5 components will ensure you are in flow, loving your business and are destined to live the business lifestyle you desire. Without it you will feel like a headless chicken stuck in a maze – overwhelmed and overworked heading for burn-out.
Take a moment now and do an inventory of where your business and life are at the moment. Rate every part from 1 to 10 and provide evidence for your rating. Identify where you can improve, where you need help and then get help.
